Throat diseases

Video endoscopy enables us to recognise diseases of the vocal folds and larynx at an early stage. This also applies to preventive care for smokers and the diagnosis of acute illnesses, ranging from so-called “SCREAMING NODULES” in children, which can lead to hoarseness or a raspy voice, to tumours of the vocal folds. These, in turn, are usually detected early as they very quickly lead to voice changes, which means that they are considered to have a favourable prognosis if the patient goes to the doctor early enough. Screaming nodules are often caused by excessive strain on the vocal cords and usually improve with speech therapy.

We also often see patients with so-called REFLUX OF MAGIC ACID (nocturnal acid regurgitation). Most of these patients are unaware of this event, which takes place during deep sleep at night and can burn the vocal folds, which in turn can lead to hoarseness and a sore throat in the morning. Naturally, vocal fold paralysis can also cause voice changes. In speakers and singers, we often see pure “FUNCTIONAL VOICE DISORDERS” which are often caused by incorrect or excessive strain on the vocal folds.
